V.U. Police established a Transportation Service (VUTS) on the Valparaiso University campus to enhance security and to increase crime prevention services already in operation. The VUTS provides daily transportation for students needing to travel between 6:00 PM and 2:00 AM from one point to another point on campus or nearby off-campus areas. There is no charge for the service.

The vans are equipped with a mobile two-way communication system that provides immediate access to the University Police Department.

How It Works

The demand van provides service to all academic buildings, residence halls, and Compass Pointe Apartments (2220, 2222, 2230, and 2232 only) from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. upon request by calling 464-6040.

When requesting transportation the students are encouraged to call in their request early enough to allow ample time as the route van will operate on a regular schedule, but the demand van is by request and several requests may need to be met within the same time frame.

The route van travels around the campus making route stops at 21 designated locations throughout the campus and the Mound Street area. White signs with green lettering that say "Escort Van Stop" mark the locations. The van stops at each location approximately every 20 minutes.

The Drivers

The drivers have been hired by and work under the supervision of the Valparaiso University Police Department. They may be identified by a photo identification badge worn on their person. All drivers have been trained to operate the vans and have completed an in-service training program conducted by the Valparaiso University Police Department.
