High School Liaison
This year over half of our VAN members are serving as liaisons between Valparaiso University and high schools in their community. Participating VAN members establish a liaison role with the chosen high schools in their area, acting as an information source for prospective and admitted students from these schools. VAN members will:
- Act as a resource for the high school counselors, students and parents.
- Admission decision questions should be referred to the appropriate admission counselor.
- Stay on top of the high school's supply of Valpo admission applications and catalogs (these high schools should automatically receive catalogs through the admission counselors' visits and the Office of Admission's annual mailings).
- Call (888-468-2576) or email the VAN Director to request material.
- Make congratulatory calls to admitted students and parents from the high schools you choose.
- VAN members in the high school liaison program will receive monthly lists of admitted students from "their" schools, beginning in December.
Today's high school counselors are very busy people who spend much of their time on projects other than college counseling. By introducing yourself as a local resource for general VU information, the counselors can direct interested high school students to you. However do not get involved in admission decision questions; refer these to the admission counselor who works with this community. Upon request we can provide you with a professional name badge that you can wear to appropriate events.
