Kiplinger's Top 50: Valparaiso University has been named one of the top 50 educational values among the nation's private institutions of higher education by Kiplinger's Personal Finance April issue. Kiplinger's rankings are based on academic measures such as the SAT and ACT scores of students, student-to-faculty ratio and graduation rate, as well as affordability measures such as cost after need-based aid, financial support from grants, and average debt at graduation.
Paul Simon Award: Valparaiso University has won the prestigious Senator Paul Simon Award for Campus Internationalization, recognizing it as a model for other institutions of higher education in preparing graduates with strong cross-cultural skills and global awareness. Valparaiso is one of five institutions in the United States to be recognized this year by NAFSA: Association of International Educators with the award. The University's efforts in promoting international education will be featured in “Internationalizing the Campus 2008: Profiles of Success at Colleges and Universities,” to be published by NAFSA this fall. Valparaiso and the four other awardees also will be recognized at the NAFSA annual conference in Washington, D.C. Named for the late Senator Paul Simon, (D–Ill.), the award recognizes outstanding and innovative efforts in campus internationalization.
Placement Report: Valparaiso University's Career Center just released the Report on the Graduates of December 2006 and May 2007. As of February 29, 2008, 601 of 630 graduates responded to requests for information. Of the 601 respondents 68.6% are employed, 25.5% are in graduate programs, 5.1% are still seeking employment, and 0.8% are not seeking employment. The overall placement rate for 2006-2007 is 94.8% with this breakdown:
Arts & Sciences = 92.6%, median salary of $30,000
Business Administration = 97.9%, median salary of $40,000
Engineering = 100%, median salary of $51,000
Nursing = 98.2%, median salary of $48,000
Values-based Leadership : Valparaiso University's College of Business Administration has launched a new online journal this week that will promote ethical and moral leadership by business and institutional leaders throughout the world. The Journal of Values-Based Leadership sprang out of recent incidents of corporate greed and wrongdoing that have shaken people's trust in the business community, said Elizabeth Gingerich , co-editor in chief of the journal and an associate professor of business law.
