•  Campus Construction Projects
•  FOCUS Is Over
•  Numbers Update

Occasionally I am asked if the construction projects on campus have a negative impact on our visiting prospective students. I think all of us in the Admission Office agree that these projects have a positive affect! New students and families appreciate seeing that the University is growing and improving its facilities, frequently commenting on this in person when they visit and through the surveys they complete afterward.

What are our visitors seeing on campus? The steel frame of the new Union is up, so you can see what an impressive building this will be. The parking ramp next to Alumni Hall should be open for use any day now, adding hundreds of parking spots for our residents. Landscaping continues to improve throughout campus, largely in part with the 150 trees donated to the University by a local nursery. The underground duct work (for new cable, fibre optics, etc) is complete and fencing around all but the Union is down.

FOCUS was a blast! The four day-and-a-half long events ran during the past two weeks and each was filled to capacity. Weather was quite pleasant, except for a couple of minor rain storms here and there. Parents left stating how comfortable they felt knowing their students will be enrolled at VU in the fall, and students found great friends in our diversity incoming class. Our admission counselors will keep in touch with “their” new students this summer, but are beginning to relationship-build with the members of the class of 2008 who are visiting Valpo this summer. They look forward to your continued help this next year.
