I thought I'd share a message that came in to us in the Admission Office. Written by a member of our professional association, the author wanted to remind us to be protective of our personal belongings when working college fairs: “Putting one's purse or valuables under your table ‘protected' by the table banner or draping is not sufficient…. Take only what you need into fairs, leave nothing of value visible in your cars' interiors…. Colleagues in my office do not leave table banners or display boards set up at overnight fairs like nationals to protect our school's investments in these costly items.  Also remember to look after each other and to keep an eye out on the colleges in the booths next to us.” Excellent suggestions for all of our college fair assistants!

It's crunch time in college Admission Offices around the country! This is the time when admitted students are making their final college decisions and are either cancelling their applications or depositing with VU - we hope the latter! May 1st is the national deposit date for colleges and universities, and within a few weeks we will have a pretty strong indication of the size of our new class of students which you helped bring in. As of today, this is where we stand:

Our experience in the Admission Office the past few weeks supports guidance counselors' comments to us that their students want to be fully informed before they make their college decision. We have had hundreds of admitted students and their parents schedule visits through the Admission Office in March and April – more than last year -- and most of whom are coming back for their 2 nd or 3 rd visit to campus! They request a campus tour, chat with an admission counselor, and ask to meet with professors, coaches, music teachers, and current students. As long as these requests are made well in advance, our daily visit coordinator, Joan Helvie, can work on a schedule to meet the student's needs. Our visit programs coordinator, Joanne Bowker, shares that our overnight visitors are up this year from 246 students in 2005-2006 to 310 students in 2006-2007!
