See some of Valpo's prominent alumni along Northwest Indiana and Chicago highways and on Metra trains over the coming months as the University's 150 th anniversary celebration approaches. NBC 5 Chicago meteorologist Ginger Zee is the first alumnus featured in the “I'm a Valpo Graduate” campaign, which includes billboards on I-90 in Northwest Indiana and I-294 near O'Hare, plus posters on the Chicagoland Metra trains. Ginger is a 2002 grad and member of the VAN, assisting the Admission staff with receptions in Chicago.
Valpo's College of Business Administration again has been named one of the nation's outstanding business schools in the Princeton Review guidebook Best 290 Business Schools , released earlier this month.
As part of Valpo's FITT initiative (Football, Intramurals, Tennis, Track), a donor has stepped forward with a $1million gift, the largest single gift ever received for the Athletics Department!
Valpo's 10 th Annual Career Fair in September was filled with representatives from 120 companies and graduate schools; The event was run by Sandy McGuigan, director of the Career Center , who said that employer interest in Valpo grads is very strong again this year. About 40 of the recruiters were VU alumni.
Keep an eye on the new Union's progress ! This week workers begin preparing for installation of windows on the west side, with installation taking several weeks. Also scheduled during the next two weeks are pouring of concrete for the loading dock ramp on the north side of the building, continued laying of brick (east and south sides) and limestone (northeast and southeast corners) and ongoing roof work on the southwest and southeast corners of the building. Inside the structure, we see placement of conduit for electrical services continues along with installation of ventilation system ductwork and plumbing.
There is a new Valpo trolley (bus) service in Valparaiso! The V-Line Transit System began operating October 1 st . It includes three specific services: city routes, a route that include the VU campus, and a route that will take riders up to the South Shore Train Station in Chesterton! A one-way ticket is $1.00 and a monthly pass is $30. Many University students are already taking advantage of this wonderful new service.
Congratulations to the Crusader softball team! These women boasted the 6 th -highest team grade point average among Division I schools last year, according to data compiled by the National Fastpitch Coaches Assocation.
