Christ College to Mark 40th Anniversary in 2007-’08

Christ College, Valparaiso University’s honors college, will celebrate its 40th anniversary with special events through­out the 2007-’08 academic year.

Valpo’s Homecoming and Reunion Weekend 2007 will include:

  • Thursday, Oct. 4, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Christ College Refectory: CC Home­coming Symposium with speakers David Schreiber ’77, Jane Knetzger ’84, Philip Spahn ’92, ’95 J.D., and Vanessa Burrows ’01.
  • Saturday, Oct. 6, 3 to 5 p.m., Christ College Commons: CC Alumni Reception with remarks by Dean Mel Piehl ’68 and recognition of the 2007 Alumni Association Distinguished Teaching Awardee, Professor Mark Schwehn ’67.

Throughout the year Schwehn will lead a campus faculty seminar on Liberal Education in the Twenty-First Century. The seminar will bring an array of nationally known scholars to Valpo’s campus to discuss the challenges facing liberal education today, including its relationship to professional studies. Several scholars will deliver public presentations as part of Christ College’s 2007-’08 symposium series, which serves the campus and community.

Since its founding in 1967, Christ College has graduated more than 1,800 alumni who have pursued notable careers in which they advance the college’s mission of “honoring intellect, enlivening faith, and engaging the world.
