Baseball Team Back to Conference Tourney

Valparaiso University’s baseball team this past May headed to the Mid-Continent Conference Tournament for the first time since 2003 as the Crusaders faced second-seeded Western Illinois in the opening round.

Trailing by four with one out in the ninth, Valpo rallied with a monumental comeback, scoring seven times in the final inning to win by a score of 13-10.

It was Valpo’s first opening-round victory since 1998 and just the second since the tournament went to the double elimination format in 1985.

The Crusaders later were defeated 4-2

by Oral Roberts and by Centenary, 6-1.

Valpo’s season comes to a close with 22 wins, matching the most victories for the Crusaders since 2001.
