Search Process in Place for New President
“A critical hallmark of a successful organization is how well it prepares for and transitions its leadership,” says Valparaiso University President Alan Harre. “My priority is both to continue to lead this university and also to empower my successor to step forward seamlessly on the foundation that is in place.” To that end, the VU Board of Directors is following an approved procedure for the selection of the next president that includes assessing the state of the university, identifying desired leadership characteristics and criteria, and determining competitive terms of employment.
The search will be conducted by a nine-member committee composed of five members of the board of directors, two faculty members, a representative of the alumni association and a committed supporter of the university who is not a board member. The committee is expected to recommend its choice no later than spring 2008.
Harre praised administrators and board members for their dedication to the university’s strategic direction. “Valpo’s future success depends on the infrastructure of people, programs and facilities now in place. And I believe we have built, and are continuing to build, a solid foundation for a new beginning.”
