Kenneth Korby, who served Valparaiso University as a professor of theology, 1958-1980, died July 11, 2006. Korby was director of the VU Reutlingen Center for Overseas Study in Germany for the 1968-1969 academic year, and he served as director of the Youth Leadership Training Program from 1970 to 1975. Korby served as editor of The Cresset from fall 1972 until spring 1978. In May he received, in absentia, an honorary doctor of divinity degree from Concordia Seminary, where he was known as a “teacher of pastors” during the 50 years of his ministry.

Jaroslav Pelikan ’66 L.H.D. died May 13, 2006. He was a member of the Valparaiso University faculty and managing editor of the The Cresset from 1947 to 1949. He also taught history at Valpo and Concordia Theological Seminary before beginning his tenure at Yale University in 1962; in 1972 he was appointed to the Sterling professorship, Yale’s highest honor, and served as dean of the graduate school from 1973 to 1978. In December 2004, Pelikan was awarded the Library of Congress’s second John W. Kluge Prize for Lifetime Achievement in the Human Sciences.
