Students Raise More Than $100K for Charities

Hundreds of Valparaiso University students performed nearly 50,000 hours of service and raised more than $100,000 for numerous philanthropies during the 2005-’06 academic year.

Some 39 student organizations and athletic teams logged 48,018 hours of community service for a variety of programs, and raised $107,502 for philanthropic activities, according to Valpo’s Office of Volunteer Programs.

Among the organizations benefiting were Canterbury Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Boys and Girls Clubs of Porter County, Opportunity Enterprises, Special Olympics, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, Spring Valley Homeless Shelter, Relay for Life, Rebuilding Together-Valparaiso and Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
