Women’s Tennis in Second Straight NCAA Tourney
The Valparaiso University women’s tennis team made its second straight NCAA Tournament appearance this past May, taking on No. 2 seed Notre Dame.

This past fall the Valpo women’s soccer team made its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

The Crusaders, the Mid-Continent Conference regular season and tournament champions, earned the automatic bid to the tournament. Notre Dame did the same by winning the Big East Conference tournament.

In the NCAA tourney, Valpo saw its outstanding season (15-8) come to an end with a 5-0 loss to the Fighting Irish.
Last year, Valpo faced Northwestern in the first round of the tournament, falling 4-0 to the Wildcats.

Women’s Soccer in First-Ever NCAA Tourney Valparaiso University’s women’s soccer team played last fall in its first NCAA Tournament in school history.

Coming off of its first Mid-Continent Conference regular season and tournament titles, the Crusaders met defending national champions Notre Dame in the first round of the tourney.

Valpo played solid defense for most of the match, but in the end, second seeded Notre Dame was too much, defeating the Brown and Gold 6-0 before 1,530 fans at Alumni Field in South Bend, Ind.

With the loss, Valpo (12-8-1) closed out its best season in school history marked by a record 12 victories.
Valpo earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after defeating Oakland 3-1 in the Mid-Continent Conference Tournament.

Valpo Tops Mid-Con 2005-’06 Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence

The Mid-Continent Conference has announced its 2005-’06 Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence, with 112 Valparaiso University student-athletes selected, a league best.

A total of 576 student-athletes from all 19 conference-sponsored sports were named to the list. Western Illinois and Oakland had 85 and 68 recipients, respectively. IUPUI landed 59 student-athletes on the Commissioner’s List, followed by Southern Utah with 54 and Centenary with 52. Oral Roberts had 48, UMKC, 44, and Chicago State, 30. Associate Mid-Con members Eastern Illinois and South Dakota State placed 18 and six student-athletes on the swimming and diving Commissioner’s List, respectively. Of the 576 student-athletes that were honored, 10 have a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average.

To be selected to the Commissioner’s List, student-athletes must carry a 3.00 or better cumulative grade point average; achieve sophomore standing; and letter in the sport in which they are nominated.
