Chapel Hosts Organists From Across Country
Approximately 2,000 organists from across the country assembled at Valparaiso University’s Chapel of the Resurrection July 3 for the start of the American Guild of Organists’ annual convention, with two of the world’s most distinguished organists performing on Valpo’s renowned Reddel Memorial Organ.
An opening worship service featured music by VU’s Bach Choir and organist Martin Jean, who served on Valpo’s music faculty and was university organist from 1989 to 1997. James O’Donnell (pictured), organist and master of the choristers of London’s Westminster Abbey since 2000, performed the featured concert on the Reddel Organ.
Renovated in 1996, the state-of-the-art Reddel Organ has nearly 5,500 pipes and 101 ranks with a four-manual console with pedal and 77 stops.
