Alumni, Faculty Help Produce New Lutheran Hymnals

Valparaiso University’s Chapel of the Resurrection will be among the first churches to use two new Lutheran hymnals being published this fall.

The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod’s hymnal, “Lutheran Service Book,” and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America’s “Evangelical Lutheran Worship,” are being published by Concordia Publishing House and Augsburg Fortress Publishing House, respectively.

Hymns

VU’s Kantorei choir has recorded several hymns from each hymnal.

Listen to samples.

Paul Grime ’81, executive director of the LCMS Commission on Worship, and David Johnson ’85, director of music/worship resources at Concordia Publishing House, have been instrumental in helping to produce the
LCMS hymnal.

Lorraine Brugh, associate professor of music at VU, Kruse Organ Fellow, and director of the Institute of Liturgical Studies, has been working on the ELCA hymnal.

The Chapel of the Resurrection is seeking donations from alumni and friends to purchase the hymnals, at $25 each. To make a gift, contact VU’s Office of Institutional Advancement at 219.464.5134 or send an e-mail to valpo.magazine@valpo.edu.
