Dudley Exhibition to Run Through Nov. 30

The Brauer Museum of Art at Valparaiso University is presenting the largest-ever exhibition of the art of Frank V. Dudley, an early 20th century landscape painter who focused on the Indiana Dunes along the southern shores of Lake Michigan.

Frank V. Dudley

Titled “The Indiana Dunes Revealed: The Art of Frank V. Dudley (1868-1957),” the exhibition runs through
Nov. 30. Admission is free. It was made possible by generous contributions from NiSource Inc., Partners for the Brauer Museum of Art and the Brauer Museum of Art's Sloan Endowment. They, along with Furthermore: A Program of the J.M. Kaplan Fund, also sponsored a catalog of Dudley's life and art that will be available for purchase at the VU Bookcenter.

Dudley’s devotion to the Indiana Dunes was part of a movement to develop a national dunes park. His 1918 Chicago Art Institute exhibition of 30 dunes paintings brought national attention to the plight of the dunes. In the following few years, he exhibited dunes paintings at museums across the country, including the National Academy of Design in New York City, the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D.C., and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia.
