Valparaiso University Honor System

Welcome to the Valparaiso University Honor Council website!

Valparaiso University is proud to be one of a select few universities to operate under a student-run honor system. The Honor Code was established in 1943 by the students with the support of the faculty. Signing one's name to the honor code not only ensures academic pride and integrity of oneself and others, but also one's commitment to a future comprised of honest work and integrity.

Krista Hennings, Executive Vice Chair of the Honor Council, travels to the Center for Academic Integrity International Conference in Boulder, CO. For her report on research, attitudes on academic integrity and ethical issues, read more >>
The Honor System is a cherished tradition of Valparaiso University. Covering all work submitted for academic credit, including unproctored examinations, it is based on the highest principles of ethics and honesty in class work as well as other phases of campus life, and is regarded as an expression of the Christian character of the University.

Students curious about plagiarism and cheating specifics are encouraged to browse through the Student Resources page.

The Honor Council has amended its Constitution to streamline the appeals process, codify procedures already in practice, and make sure the Honor System is as fair to all parties as possible. You may download the Constitution of the Honor System of Valparaiso University here.
