Janet M. Brown, Dean of Nursing

Welcome and thank you for providing me with the opportunity to introduce you to one of the best programs in nursing! We demand scholarship but we also emphasize service and excellence in teaching first and foremost. For over 40 years, Valparaiso University's College of Nursing has remained at the forefront of the nation's finest nursing programs. Valpo offers the benefits of a small, first-rate program and the advantages of a comprehensive university. The curriculum's blend of liberal arts with professional programs is indeed what makes Valpo graduates preparation exceptional.

The College of Nursing is made up of highly qualified faculty who demonstrate a commitment and passion for teaching and their profession. They are clinically experienced nurses who are leaders in their field. More than 60 percent of the faculty hold doctoral degrees in nursing. The College of Nursing offers several innovative options for undergraduate students: the four-year BSN curriculum, Accelerated BSN option, and RN-BSN and RN-MSN options. We offer the Masters of Science in Nursing degree with a focus on nursing education, and a joint MSN/MBA program. In addition, we offer the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree.

Professional nurses are in high demand and face an exciting future. Dynamic career possibilities exist for those who care about humanity and want to help others. The curriculum at Valpo provides graduates with a deeper understanding of their clients and a greater ability to holistically manage care. The program is designed to develop critical thinking skills that are invaluable in making decisions as a professional nurse.

I encourage you to write, call, or e-mail us for specific requests for further information. We believe in serving our students to the best of our ability and take the reponsibility to respond to your inquiries very seriously.

Sincerely,

Janet M. Brown, R.N., Ph.D.
