Advanced Learning in a Cutting Edge Lab

Called the Virtual Nursing Learning Center, the laboratory offers eight state-of-the-art patient stations complete with interactive mannequins, beds and equipment simulating a hospital environment. Using mannequins that are realistic in every way, examinations and procedures can be practiced.

Dr. Mauk wins Caterpiller Award for Excellence in Teaching

Dr. Kristen Mauk, an associate professor of nursing, has been named recipient of Valparaiso University's prestigious Caterpillar Award for Excellence in Teaching.

The Caterpillar Award is presented annually to a committed and effective Valparaiso professor who displays proven excellence in engaging and empowering students, in using innovative methods of teaching and in enhancing the personal, intellectual and spiritual growth of the students.

The Student Nurses Association is a national organization that groups student nurses together to discuss current healthcare issues as well as celebrate the nursing profession. The state level informs each school's chapter of upcoming events and issues that are important for student nurses. The National Student Nurses' Association (NSNA) has a national convention that raises new issues that effect the future of nursing. Two students represented Valparaiso University College of Nursing at the NSNA 2008 meeting.

Partnership opens door to operating room

A new partnership between the College of Nursing and Porter Health System will give nursing students an opportunity to gain first-hand experience working in the operating room environment.
