Valparaiso Law students visit U.S. Supreme Court
Wednesday, October 31, 2007
This Wednesday, October 31, fifteen Valparaiso University School of Law students and their professor will travel to the U.S. Supreme Court in Washington, D.C., to hear oral arguments in the case of Danforth v. Minnesota.
Derrick Carter, associate professor of law, is taking students from his courses in criminal law and criminal constitutional procedure to hear the case, which concerns the power of state courts to retroactively apply U.S. Supreme Court decisions.
Following oral arguments, Carter and his students will meet with some of the justices and talk to Acting Deputy Attorney General Craig Morford, a Valparaiso Law graduate.
Earlier this month, United States Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia stopped by Valparaiso University to judge the School of Law’s annual Swygert Moot Court Competition and to give a public address.
