Free legal consultations available on MLK Day at Valparaiso University School of Law

Friday, January 4, 2008

The Valparaiso University School of Law will host free individual consultations about legal issues Jan. 21 as part of the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration on campus.

“Talk to a Lawyer Today” will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Valparaiso’s School of Law, 656 S. Greenwich St. Anyone with legal questions is invited to visit with Valparaiso law students and local attorneys during the program.

The program, sponsored for the sixth consecutive year by the Indiana State Bar Association, allows Hoosiers who cannot afford lawyers or are intimidated by the legal system to get answers to their legal questions. No appointment is necessary.

Sessions are limited to approximately 10 minutes, on a “first come, first served” basis.

Additional walk-in consultations are available at locations in Portage, Gary, Hammond, Lowell, Lake Station, Michigan City, LaPorte and DeMotte in Northwest Indiana. Members of the public can also receive assistance by calling a statewide hotline (800) 266-2581 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Jan. 21.

For more information about Valparaiso’s MLK Celebration, with numerous public events taking place Jan. 17 to 26 on campus, visit the Celebration Web site.
