Endowed Funds
Since 1980, endowment funds have granted over $50 million in support of programs, students and faculty. Today, our endowment represents about $37,000 per student. But some of our peer institutions have over $250,000 per student. For that reason, we are always trying to build the endowment to provide our students with the very best educational experience, become more competitive with other universities and allow those without the means to enjoy the Valpo experience.
Approximately 56% of the endowment funds go toward scholarships. An additional 34% go toward designated areas like chairs and professorships, and the remaining 10% go toward general endowment. With a gift to one of the following areas, your gift can truly make a difference in the future of Valparaiso University.
And by establishing an endowed fund at Valpo, you to do more than just give a gift –you strengthen the mission of VU. A strong endowment also provides increased financial stability for the university, allowing its leadership to plan for the future with greater confidence. Gifts to an endowed fund are held in perpetuity.
Unless otherwise specified, the minimum gift amount required to establish a new endowed fund is $25,000. If you prefer, you may instead choose to give to the general endowment or add to an already-established fund.
We welcome the opportunity to explore these options with you
There are several categories of endowed funds:
Lutheran Heritage and Character
VU remains committed to its Lutheran heritage and preserving its Lutheran character. The Chapel of the Resurrection is the physical and spiritual center of campus, offering a wide variety of learning, worship and service opportunities.

Faculty Support and Recognition
A university is only as strong as its faculty. Valparaiso University faculty members are strong scholars committed to direct interaction with their students and to conducting research to further their fields of study. Included in this category are endowed chairs and deanships.

International Studies Programs
What do 14 programs plus 9 countries equal? One life-changing experience. With more industries operating globally, understanding the larger context in which we live is a distinct advantage for VU graduates. Increased endowed funds would allow the University to offer international experiences for a larger number of students and explore the addition of new study venues.
Campus Development
An aesthetically pleasing campus is an important feature for students, who rely on “curb appeal” to help make their decisions on where to enroll. If you’ve been on campus lately, you may have seen some of these changes at work.
General Endowment
Undesignated funds allow Valparaiso University’s leadership to be flexible in using resources. A large general endowment fund enables choices based on what is best for educating Valpo’s students and furthering its mission, rather than on what is merely the most financially expedient.
