Prospective Students

Projects & Undergraduate Research

All Valpo engineering students are required to participate in a multidisciplinary design project in their senior year. Civil engineering students have a one-semester project course. Electrical, computer, and mechanical engineering students participate in a joint two-semester project. Examples of student design projects are a GPS-enabled lawnmower and a fire-fighting robot.

Exceptional students can participate in cutting-edge research guided by faculty. Some mechanical engineering students are participating in solar research with Dr. Palumbo, Chair of Mechanical Engineering. Some electrical engineering students are doing research in Quantum Neural Networks with Dr. Doug Tougaw, Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Civil engineering students are doing research in storm water conveyance systems and statistical distribution modeling with Dr. Pete Weiss, Chair of Civil Engineering.
