Engineering students Luke Venstrom and Kevin Ford won national Tau Beta Pi Fellowships for graduate study and Josh Wood was named a national Tau Beta Pi Scholar for 2007-2008 (May 2007)

A Valparaiso University engineering student has won the Edward J. Cox Memorial Transportation Scholarship from the Institute of Transportation Engineers for the fifth time in seven years. Alan Holderread, a sophomore civil engineering major from North Liberty, received the $2,500 scholarship from the Indiana Section of ITE in recognition of his academic performance, involvement in co-curricular activities, demonstrated leadership abilities and career plans in transportation engineering or planning. For the second consecutive year, an engineering student at Valparaiso University has been named to USA Today's All-USA College Academic Team, which recognizes the nation's most outstanding students. David Wheeler, a senior electrical engineering major from St. Charles, Ill., was named to the Third Team along with 19 other students.

Valparaiso University engineering student Jason Hallman of Rockford, Ill., has won a national scholarship from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Hallman is one of 16 students in the country to receive a ASME Foundation Scholarship. Award recipients were selected based on their scholastic ability and potential contributions to the mechanical engineering profession. (June 2005)

Robby Copouls, a senior civil engineering major, was awarded the Solon E. Summerfield Award by the Endowment Fund of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. The primary selection criteria are academic standing, and leadership and service to the chapter, campus and community. (Feb. 2005)

Valparaiso University junior Rachel Husfeld of Katy, Texas, has been named to USA Today's 2005 All-USA College Academic Team in recognition of her outstanding academic achievements and leadershipof the Engineers Without Borders Kenya project. Husfeld and 19 other students were selected by a panel of judges from more than 600 students nominated by colleges and universities across the United States. (Feb. 2005)

Derek Snyder was recipient of the Indiana Section ASCE Student Award and the Illinois Section ASCE Urban Planning and Development Group Scholarship. (2005)

David Galik received the Ben King Award for Phi Kappa Psi members majoring in engineering or related fields. (2005)

Ashley Young received the Associated General Contractors Education and Research Foundation's 2005 Ralph W. & Marilyn A. Johnson Undergraduate Scholarship.

Kristen Painting received the NASA Co-op Special Achievement Award in recognition of her outstanding achievments in a cooperative education program at Johnson Space Center during the 2004 fall semester.

Robby Copouls received the Ben King Award for Phi Kappa Psi members majoring in engineering or related fields. (2004)

Ashley Young received the 2004 Associated General Contractors Indiana Construction Scholarship.

The Society of Women Engineers received the 2004 Outstanding Student Section Award, 2nd place for Small Section, for their sense of community.

Peter Hinck was awarded an NSF Fellowship to pursue graduate studies and research. (2004)

Steven Henderson and Robert Yamtich won honorable mention by the NSF Graduate Fellows Program. (2004)

Eric Andris was a winner of the Tau Beta Pi Scholarship for undergraduate study. Eric was one of 39 nationwide winners out of 234 applicants. He also won the Duke Energy No. 1 Scholarship. (2003)

Paul McGovern was a winner of the Tau Beta Pi fellowship for graduate study during the 2003-04 academic year. Paul was one of 35 winners out of 195 applicants. He also won the Matthews No. 6 Fellowship.

Green design explored in talk

April 25, 2008

Two experts in the design of environmentally-friendly buildings and business activities will discuss the benefits of “green” engineering during an April 30 talk at Valparaiso University.  Valparaiso alumnus John Abrecht, senior architect and director of sustainable design at Knight Engineering & Architecture, and Tim Carey, a chemical engineer at Quaker Oats, will present “Sustainable Design Engineering.”
