Electrical & Computer Engineering Electives

Computer Electives (6 credit hours CPE only):

The Computer elective requirement may be met by taking two of the following courses: ECE 429, 450, and 452.

Electrical Electives (12 credit hours EE only):

The Electrical elective requirement may be met by taking four of the following courses: ECE 258, 372, 424, 429, 450, 452, 453, and 471.

Math/Science Electives (6 credit hours EE only):

The Math/Science elective requirement may be met by taking two of the following courses: ASTR 252, BIO 151, 152, 171, 172, 210, 250, 270, CHEM 115, 116, 121, 122, 221, 230, MATH 314, 320, 340, 366, 430 or 434, ECE 357, PHYS 250, 360, 381, 421, 430, or 440. At least one elective course must be a chemistry course. Other choices may be made available by petition to the ECE department.

Engineering Science Elective (3 credit hours):

The engineering science elective requirement may be met by taking one of the following courses: GE 109, GE 209, ME 252, ME 253, CE 332, CE 364, or ME 270.

Free Elective (3 credit hours):

The free elective is completely unrestricted. You may take any course to fulfill this requirement. Moreover, the three credit hours need not be from a single course but can be an accumulation of excess credit hours from other areas. For example, you may use credits awarded for music activities.

Academic Area Studies Elective (3 credit hours):

A listing of acceptable courses can be found in the VU General Catalog under the Bachelor of Arts Degree, Section A. 2., Academic Area Studies, categories a through g.

Social Analysis Elective (3 credit hours):

A listing of acceptable courses can be found in the VU General Catalog under the Bachelor of Arts Degree, Section A. 2., Academic Area Studies, category g.

Professional Electives (6 credit hours):

This is a list of approved courses which may be used for the Professional Electives. Students may petition the ECE department to add a course to this list.

Economics: 221, 222, 223, 321, 322, 324, 325, 326, 330, 331 or 333.

English 300

Mathematics numbered 260 and above except 320

Communications 140 OR 243

Computer Science: numbered 225 and above

Physics: 245, 250, 310, 345, 360, 371, 372, 381, 421, 422, 430, 430L or 440.

Theology 341 (Introduction to Bio-ethics).

CBA: Accounting, decision science, management or marketing courses numbered over 200.

CE 212 215 253 or any course numbered over 300.

ECE any above 200 except 281.

ME 209 215 252 253 or any course numbered over 300.

GE 481, 482 or 483 may be used only if students have completed at least six credits of a cooperative education program in engineering.

Any ROTC course used to satisfy the Air Force ROTC program requirements.






 

 

Green design explored in talk

Two experts in the design of environmentally-friendly buildings and business activities will discuss the benefits of “green” engineering during an April 30 talk at Valparaiso University.  Valparaiso alumnus John Abrecht, senior architect and director of sustainable design at Knight Engineering & Architecture, and Tim Carey, a chemical engineer at Quaker Oats, will present “Sustainable Design Engineering.”
