Preparing Engineers to Lead and Serve
The hallmark of Valparaiso University's College of Engineering graduates has been their ability to lead and to serve in professional, community, and congregational settings. Since its founding in 1917, the College has instilled these values through a rigorous curriculum that seeks resonance between the professional programs and the liberal arts. This integrative approach has produced graduates who have applied scientific knowledge, ethically and creatively, to benefit society.
Engineering the Valpo Experience
- Developing the Leaders of Tomorrow. Valparaiso University has always prepared strong leaders to fill the needs of society. A Valpo engineer is adaptable and ready to sieze opportunities that have yet to be imagined.
- Engineering as Vocation. The Christian character of our institution, when combined with the strong undergraduate education within the College of Engineering, creates a positive environment that is unusual in undergraduate engineering settings.
- Engineering in a Collaborative Environment. For nearly 90 years, one defining characteristic of the College has been the camaraderie among faculty, staff, and students

National Student Awards
- Joshua Wood, senior ECE student, was named to the Third Team of the USA TODAY's 2008 All-USA College Academic Team! We have had three winners of this prestigious distinction in the past four years - Rachel Husfeld won First Team in 2005, David Wheeler won Third Team in 2006, and now Josh in 2008! This is the last year that USA TODAY will be offering the award due to budget cuts, so that makes this win even more special!
- Jason Hallman '06 ME and Rachel Husfeld '06 CE were both named 2006-07 Tau Beta Pi (TBP) Fellows. Tau Beta Pi, the national engineering honor society, named a total of 35 Fellows from 218 applications representing 30 colleges of engineering from the 330+ in the U.S. Hallman won the Spencer No. 51 Fellowship; it is presented to the winner who has made significant contributions to his or her collegiate chapter. Only four engineering programs in the U.S. had two winners besides Valpo: Ohio Northern, UNLV, U. of Louisiana-Lafayette, and the United States Naval Academy. Valpo was the only winner representing the State of Indiana.
