Valparaiso offers exciting experiences for students planning to teach in public or church-related elementary, middle or high schools. Additional teaching content area concentration in special education is also available to future teachers interested in teaching students with exceptional needs.

Requirements for obtaining a license to teach may vary from state to state, Valpo faculty members assist students in mapping out educational programs to ensure that the students are prepared for the career path they desire. Valpo’s teacher education program is designed to meet licensure requirements for the State of Indiana , which will prepare graduates for licensure in many states. For students seeking to meet licensure requirements in other states, faculty members are happy to work with them in designing a program to fit their goals.

Accredited by the Indiana Professional Standards Board (IPBS) and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) provides assurance of the quality of Valpo’s programs. In addition, the University is a member of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education and the Indiana Association of Colleges for Teacher Education.

Valpo graduates perform well on the examination given to all students seeking teaching licenses in Indiana . The pass rate for Valpo students regularly exceeds the state average in both basic skills and professional knowledge.
