Immediate Position Opening

The Department of Education at Valparaiso University invites applications for an immediate opening for a position as visiting assistant professor or visiting instructor beginning in August 2007 in educational and school psychology. Primary responsibilities for this two-year position include teaching school psychology classes and supervising field experiences for the M.S./Ed.S Program in School Psychology, and teaching educational psychology for the undergraduate teacher education programs.

Located 45 minutes from Chicago in northwest Indiana, Valparaiso University is a comprehensive university with over 3800 students. The Education Department offers undergraduate and graduate level initial teacher preparation and a graduate program in school psychology. Many courses have a field component and the Department has a very active collaborative partnership with area schools. The University is currently preparing for the construction of a state of the art facility for the Department of Education. The growth of the Department of Education has been designated a priority by the University’s strategic plan, with plans for additional programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates should be willing to work in a scholarly community committed to Christian higher education and the Lutheran tradition.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. or Ed.D. with specialization in school psychology and evidence of current practice in the field of school psychology (licensure, practice, research). Specialization or ability to function in bilingual settings would be preferable. In addition to scholarly ability, the University places emphasis on teaching and preference will be given to applicants with university teaching experience and evidence of teaching effectiveness and recent, relevant clinical experience in school psychology.
