  • Patti Barnett, Secretary

    Patti serves as secretary of OADE (Office of Alcohol and Drug Education) and SAAFE (Sexual Assault Awareness Facilitative Education) on a part-time basis. She is the first point of contact with students, and also coordinates all appointments and correspondence for these offices. Patti has been with the University for thirteen years.


  • Sharon Carney, Ph.D.

    Sharon is a full-time therapist at SCDC. She completed her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at Western Michigan University. She serves as Clinical Services Coordinator and Eating Disorders Treatment Team Coordinator. Sharon’s clinical interests include women’s issues; multicultural and feminist psychology; trauma and abuse recovery; lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender issues; spirituality; and use of creative arts in counseling.


  • Stewart E. Cooper, Ph.D., HSPP, ABPP,

    Director of Counseling Services. Stewart is a licensed and board certified psychologist who received his Ph. D. from Indiana University with a double major in Counseling Psychology and Research Methodology. He holds Diplomates in Counseling and Consulting Psychology from the American Board of Professional Psychology and is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association. His hobbies include fitness, contributing to psychology at the national level, and both national and international travel.


  • Lisa Dorsey, A.A.

    Lisa is the Office Manager for the Student Counseling and Development Center and Coordinator of the Counseling Services website. She joined Counseling Services in January 2001. She is currently working on her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with an anticipated graduation date of December 2008. Lisa is a member of Valparaiso University's Alpha Tau Chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda the Continuing Education Honor Society, the Nu chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta the International Sociology Honor Society, and Pi Gamma Mu the International Arts and Sciences Honor Society.


  • Paula Dranger, MSW.

    Paula coordinator of the SAAFE Office (Sexual Assault Awareness Facilitative Education). She received her Masters in Social Work from Loyola University. She was inducted into Alpha Sigma Nu for academic achievement and service to the university and community. Paula is a member of NASW with national certification and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Indiana. Additionally, she is a member of the Committee on Inquiry for the Ethics board of the NASW Indiana Chapter.


  • Bari Guibord, Psy.D.

    Bari joined the staff as a full-time therapsit in August of 2007. She serves as the coordinoator of our groups program. She received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in September of 2007 and her Master's degree in Social Science from The Univeristy of Chicago in 1996.


  • Stephanie Hatfield, BSW

    Stephanie Hatfield received her Bachelor of Social Work degree from Valparaiso University in 2005. She is currently working on her Master's Degree in Social Work from Loyola University School of Social Work with a concentration in Mental Health.


  • Gerry Lewis, APRN-BC

    Gerry (not pictured) is a psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, and provides psychiatric medication consultations to our clients.


  • Mendy (WanHua) Liao, B.S.

    Mendy (WanHua) is a third year master's student in the Counselor Education program at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and will be doing her training at the Student Counseling and Development Center during the 2007-2008 academic year.


  • Tim Mulligan, M.S.

    Tim joined the staff as a full-time therapist in August 2006. He is in the process of completing his dissertation for the PhD in Counseling Psychology from Oklahoma State University.


  • Suhayl Nasr, MD

    (Not Pictured) Suhayl is our part-time consulting psychiatrist, is Board Certified in psychiatry, and has almost 2 decades of experience with helping college students.


  • Whitney Owens, PsyD

    Whitney is the Coordinator of the Office of Alcohol and Drug Education and a staff therapist at the Counseling Center.  She received her Masters and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology through the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Chicago, IL, and her BA in Psychology from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL.  Whitney has professional interests in health and wellness, managing transitions, depression, anxiety and relational issues.  Whitney enjoys providing outreach to the campus community, especially surrounding the topics of alcohol and drug use, study skills and stress management.
