Tammy Lis ’06

With only one year of professional nursing under her belt, Tammy Lis ’06 B.S.N. already is excelling in her field, receiving the prestigious Nurse’s Choice Award for “2007 Beginning Practitioner.” A registered nurse and clinician at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Ill., Lis also serves as co-anchor of the Satisfaction Committee, collaborating with other nurses, nursing care technicians, and unit secretaries to increase patient and employee satisfaction on the medical-respiratory floor.

A Message from Dean Janet Brown

You will sense the excitement in the College of Nursing from the articles in this issue of Valpo Nursing. The installation of Professor Kris (Gibson ’81) Mauk into the Kreft Chair for the Advancement of Nursing Science was a very significant event. An endowed chair raises the prestige of the college and confirms that there is noteworthy scholarship being produced. This has been a strategic goal, and I am very grateful to Shirley and Karl Kreft for making this chair a reality. The Shaken Baby models featured in this issue are in demand for community-based education programs. They were purchased with donations to the Dean’s Annual Fund. Thank you for providing our students with these exceptional teaching tools. We look forward to our continued pursuit of excellence and the celebration of our past at the 40th Anniversary Gala on Feb. 7, 2009. Mark your calendars!
