A Message From Dean Mel Piehl ’68

The academic centerpiece of Christ College’s 40th anniversary celebration in 2007-’08 is a seminar for faculty throughout campus titled, “Liberal Education in the 21st Century,” led by Valparaiso University’s 2007 Distinguished Teaching Award recipient Mark Schwehn ’67. So far, we have been inspired and instructed by nationally eminent scholars and teachers such as Francis Oakley, author of “Community of Learning,” and Leon Kass, author of “The Beginning of Wisdom: Reading Genesis.”

No one can even guess what the 21st century will bring for the great tradition of liberal learning of which Christ College is a part, or what institutions like Valpo and CC will look like in 2099. But we do know that the students, alumni and friends of Christ College have built a solid foundation that will enable CC to flourish in the future, as it has for these past 40 years.
