‘Price is Right’ for Assessment Center

David Price ’84

Since graduating from Valparaiso’s University’s College of Business Administration, David Price ’84 has wanted to volunteer at the university.

“I wanted to give something back to a university that provided me with a degree and enabled me to get where I am now,” he says.

He got the chance about seven years ago when he learned of a need in the College of Business Administration’s Assessment Center. Piloted in 1997, the center affords students an opportunity to experience real-world business scenarios with the help of regional business executives. Students meet face-to-face with professionals in a simulated business environment, taking part in role-playing exercises and verbal presentations.

Price, president and owner of RPS Imaging, an x-ray distribution company,  believes the center has many benefits.

“It’s a great practical tool,” he says. “Sometimes students are put in pressure situations. They’re handed material 10 minutes before they have to give a presentation. Those are things that are very real in a business situation.”
