The Society of Actuaries and the Casualty Actuarial Society are changing their system of examinations effective January 2005. Under the new system, students must complete 5 courses in the areas of economics, corporate finance and applied statistics, with a B- or better, in addition to passing exams. VU is in the process of submitting VU courses to be approved by the Society for this requirement.
The first two exams, jointly administered by the SOA and CAS (called P and FM by the SOA, Exam I and II by the CAS) have been shortened on the new system. Students who have completed Math 341 and 342 should consider attempting Exam P; students who have completed Finance 304 should consider attempting Exam FM.
